Carrie’s choice: National Velvet (1944) Airing at 7:30AM EST This is the third time I have attempted to post about National Velvet. The first time was a few months ago when TCM had it on. That time, I think I wrote it all in my head, but neglected to actually put it in a post.…
Brandie’s choice: Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939) Airing at 6:00AM EST Though John Mills was an acclaimed actor in his own right, he is perhaps best known by modern audiences as the father of actresses Hayley (The Parent Trap) and Juliet (the over-the-top soap opera Passions). And while he was undoubtedly proud of his young thespians…
Our choice: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) Airing at 1:45PM EST Once we realized this movie was in the queue for Paul Newman’s Summer Under the Stars tribute, we knew we had to recommend it. We have a connection to this film–tenuous, but important nonetheless–or, at least, to the source material of the…
Brandie’s choice: Bringing Up Baby (1938) Airing at 12:00AM EST There are a handful of movies I would personally label the funniest films of all time, and Bringing Up Baby would be near the top of that list. In fact, when I endeavor to introduce someone to the world of classic film, this is one…
Brandie’s choice: Julia Misbehaves (1948) Airing at 1:45PM EST Walter Pidgeon began his career in silent films, but it was his melodious voice (in combination with his charming good looks) that made him a star. His screen pairings with Greer Garson–a staggering eight of them–varied from romance to costume dramas to historical dramas, and most…
Our recommendation: The Man Who Came for Dinner (1942) Airing at 12:00AM EST This film is one of my favorite Christmas movies (though overall, the theme is quite less than Christmas-y), and I’m so glad to see it on the schedule for today because it features one of Ann Sheridan’s most enjoyable (though relatively minor)…
Brandie’s choice: Dance, Girl, Dance (1940) Airing at 6:00AM EST Seriously … how frickin’ gorgeous is Maureen O’Hara? It’s almost sickening. I’m just going to tell you up front: Dance, Girl, Dance is not the best movie on Maureen O’Hara’s Summer Under the Stars celebration today. It’s not as innocently fun as The Parent Trap…
Our choice: Airplane! (1980) Airing at 1:15AM EST Note: Brandie defers to Carrie’s expertise on all things Airplane! today, particularly since (gasp!) she’s never seen it. And yes, Carrie, I’m going to fix that immediately. Shifting out of some of the usual vein for TCM, we move into the 1980s. More specifically, we’re looking at…
